Big Freeze 12: Sherwood Joins The Fight Against MND

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is one of the cruelest illnesses you can face. It progressively takes away movement, speech, and independence—while the mind stays completely intact. People with MND are trapped inside a body that no longer obeys them. There's no cure. There's no treatment that stops it.
But there's hope. And that hope comes from people who refuse to accept that this is just how it has to be.
The Big Freeze
In 2015, Neale Daniher—a legendary AFL coach—was diagnosed with MND. Instead of retreating, he and others founded FightMND, a campaign dedicated to raising awareness and funding critical research to find a cure.
The Big Freeze is their flagship event. Every year, it captures the nation's attention through the icy plunge—celebrities and sports stars taking the shocking dive into ice-cold water to symbolise the freezing impact MND has on the body. But beyond the spectacle, it's about raising money. Real money that funds real research.

You'll see our players, coaches, and volunteers wearing blue big freeze beanies, ribbons, and armbands. It's a visible statement: we see this cause, we understand its importance, and we're putting our support behind it.

Why This Matters
