Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct for Parents, Guardians & Spectators
Sherwood Magpies pride themselves on creating a family-friendly and communitydriven environment. This Code of Conduct describes the behaviours required of all Sherwood Football Club Limited parents, guardians and spectators of the Club, and is aligned to AFL Queensland's ABN: 12 010 443 937 policy. Please contact your Board representative via the website should you have 41 Chelmer St East CHELMER QLD 4068 any concerns, or if you wish to share or celebrate any positives.
1. Show Respect
Demonstrate appropriate social behaviour by using appropriate language at all times. Do not use foul or abusive language, or harass players, coaches, or officials.
Respect officials' decisions. If there is a disagreement, follow the appropriate procedure through club volunteers to question decisions.
Show respect for your team's opponents — without them there would be no match.
Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials, and administrators — without them your child could not participate.
2. Lead by Example
Parents and spectators set the standard and culture by their own behaviour.
Remember that children learn best by example. Model good sportsmanship and respect officials' decisions.
3. Keep It Safe
Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
Condemn the use of violence in any form, by spectators, coaches, officials, or players.
The Ground Marshall wears an orange bib and is a volunteer position required by AFLQ at every game to support a safe environment for all. Seek help from the Ground Marshall where needed, and support their efforts to make our game safe for our children, whether at home or away venues.
The Ground Supervisor wears a purple bib and is a Sherwood Magpies club volunteer initiative put in place as an extra support for positive spectator behaviour at home games. Seek help from the Ground Supervisor where needed, and support their efforts to make our game safe for our club community.
Keep the sporting environment smoke-free and vape-free —training and games are non-smoking events.
4. Celebrate Effort & Enjoyment
Children play organised sports for fun — they are not miniature professionals.
Focus on the child's efforts and enjoyment rather than winning or losing.
Applaud good performances and efforts by your team and their opponents.
Congratulate both teams at the end of the game, regardless of the result.
Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a match — positive comments are motivational.
Encourage children to participate, do not force them.
5. Fair Play
Encourage children to always participate according to the rules.
Encourage players to play according to the rules and obey official decisions.
6. Process for breach of Code of Conduct
The below flowchart provides information about the process to be followed if a breach of the Code of Conduct occurs during a game.
