GRAND FINAL BERTH AWAITS COLTS

After a long 3 week wait the Western Magpies Colts finally get to sink their teeth into their first final. The Colts unexpectedly finished on top of the ladder and have had to bide their time over the round 18 bye and a first week break from finals action. There has been no rest for the boys though as they've worked hard, recovered well and are ready and raring to go against the Morningside Panthers this week in the QAFL Second Semi Final at Labrador on Saturday.

The Colts have finally had almost a full list to select from and will welcome Jordan Bonney, Chris Jenkins and Cam Smith back into the team that knocked the Panthers off in round 17. The young Magpies pride themselves on their pressure around the footy and will look to midfielders  Sam deNys, Caleb Franks, Jacob Sheath and Max Webber to lead from the front in this regard.

The forward line is chock full of talent and seems to have a nice mix of pace and height with the return of some key players, and should prove to be a handful for the opposition defenders. Keep an eye on excitement machine Abdullah Haddad who has been in scintillating form over recent weeks.

The group has worked hard in recent weeks to really knuckle down on their defensive structures, knowing full well that Morningside love to kick big scores and can be dangerous if you give them too much space. The Colts backline, as always, will relish the challenge and will be hoping to restrict the Panthers to another lowly score. Lead by Ethan Sivijs, Tristan Dowdy, Zac Stegmeyer and Whitlam Bishop our defensive unit looks set for a big game, holding their opponents at bay and then rebounding fiercely.

In a  huge match for the club,  the boys seem primed to put four quality quarters of football together and gain straight access into the “big dance”, a just reward for all the hard yards they have put in this season.

Kicking off at 9am at Labrador, get down and support the team in what should be a cracking match. As the last Magpie team standing in any grade of Senior and Junior footy - it should be a great crowd supporting the Magpies on the day.
