The Sherwood Magpies Australian Football Club are devastated to confirm the loss of Isaac Olver, who tragically lost his life in an accident at Kholo Creek prior to Christmas.

Isaac was a humble, gracious, determined and extremely talented young man.  A proud Magpie who began his football journey at the Ipswich Cats, he was also an accomplished cricketer and basketballer and a popular student at Ipswich Grammar School.  His loss has and will continue to be felt through his broad sporting and social network.

In footballing terms, Isaac had the world at his feet having represented Queensland and being part of the Brisbane Lions Academy for the past 5 years, progressing through to the Level 3 program in 2024.  However, most importantly Isaac was a much loved teammate - kind, considerate and quietly determined – he battled a series of significant injuries in recent years, including 2023 when he underwent a shoulder reconstruction, missing the last 10 games of the year and the national u16 championships, but remained an ever present figure at training and on match days, always supporting and encouraging his mates and the coaching staff.

At a time when we are all coming together through the Christmas and New Year period, our hearts break for Steve, Amanda and Maddy who now grieve their son and brother at this special time of year and Isaac’s entire school and sporting community have felt the impact of his loss.

The Magpies, Brisbane Lions, Ipswich Grammar School and AFL Queensland will each seek to support Isaac’s community of mates via appropriate resources.  Parents and players are encouraged to seek out this support in the coming days and weeks.
